The Lincoln Street monthly Coffeehouse and Open Mic will feature BreadRose, Thursday September 16th, 7-9pm at the Lincoln Street Center, 24 Lincoln Street in Rockland. The first hour is an open mic, followed by BreadRose's performance, then an open jam at 9. Those interested in playing the open mic should arrive by 6:45 - poetry and spoken word are welcome. BreadRose formed in 2009 in Bangor, Maine as the union of three musicians who share a yearning to reach beyond the dominant order(s) in music, society, culture, and our way of life. Rockland native Martin Chartrand and Joe Gates have performed solo as a musician, songwriter, or poet; together, they make melody, songs, spoken poetry, and noise that amplifies our spiritual, political, and emotional anger and love, dismay and inspiration. Their name hails from the eloquence of young immigrant women textile workers in Lawrence, MA who demanded from their bosses "Not just bread, but roses too!" and speaks to the connection between creativity, love, beauty and our most basic needs. Camden
Cuzzy's Restaurant
8:00 pm
Okay, this is not just Thursday Karaoke Night, it is THE place to be in Camden on a Thursday night. I have it on good authority from the schooner bums at The Appledore that this is the best place to be when you want to see the karaoke gamut range from folks thinking they are on an American Idol tryout to the worst rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody you ever heard.
Belfast
Roots and Tendrils
7:30 pm
On Thursday, September 16th, The Pleasants and Momentary Prophets will perform at Roots & Tendrils in downtown Belfast.
THE PLEASANTS
Click here to listen to The Pleasants
Musical duo The Pleasants was born in the green mountains of Vermont in 2009. Mixing equal parts whiskey, dusty earth, and spring water, musicians Amanda Rogers and Mike Matta evoke a strange sense of longing for simpler times. Sometimes described as intense folk or recession rock, but best described as "Indie Grunge", the Pleasants weave together music familiar yet altogether new.
Do It Together Records released the Pleasants' first record, "Forests and Fields," in the United States this past June. Releases in Europe and Japan will follow this fall. The duo's stop in Belfast comes in between their US summer tour and this winter's European tour.
