I used to write art and entertainment bits all the time. Then I kind of slacked off, did some traveling, built a house and wrote a couple of books. I miss it. It's not as though arts and entertainment and I broke up--we were just on a "break." It's complicated.
So, this is not going to be one of those ultra-clever blogs. This is just going to be a random roundup of fun, cool things that are happening in the midcoast. By the way, I just came back from California and a couple of Brits I got to know said, "You Americans say 'cool' and 'awesome' a lot." So now I'm trying to think of better adjectives than cool or awesome. Marvelous. Marvy (no...bad.) Stupendous. Sweet, Rad, Gnarly. Spiffing. That last one is a British term. I can't get away with it. May 29, 2010 First on the Round Up, is Maggi Blue's "Kick Glass" Trunk Show Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Rockland's Archipelago shop (part of the Island Institute). Not only do I own several pieces of Mizz Blue's iconic glass necklaces, but I've also tried her bread and all I can say is "CHALLAH BACK GIRL!" Maggi on Facebook: It's coming up folks!! This Sat - 12-4 at Archipelago. Not only will you save bread (10% off my glass if you mention FB or Twitter) AND you get to EAT bread! I will be making homemade Challah that you can slather with my homemade rhubarb/blueberry jam (also will be provided)... To recap: 10% off..., homemade bread and jam, glass...there really is no reason not to come :) Rockland's newest restaurant Next up: The Pearl in Rockland. We all know The Curse of The Black Pearl. Hell, I waitressed there for a season. I know it well. But under new owner, Jimmy Fanning, it has now been redubbed The Pearl. I like it. Simple. Smart. You know what else is smart? They did away with all of those tables in the front of the house (where no one wanted to sit) and replaced it with a U-shaped conversational bar, like Cheers, and the old Camden Sea Dog. Scroll down to see a picture of Jimmy and his staff with the first dollar bill they ever received at the soft opening of the restaurant this past week. Guess who was the first person to spend that dollar bill? Yup---me. Ryan Post, Scott Herrick and I all signed it in case you are ever curious to see it up close. May 30, 2010 Next up is John Orlando's Mayhem Memorial Day BBQ on Sunday. Orlando's on Facebook: Beach, bbq & arts barge!!! Sunday, May 30th from 2~6 at the Rockport Harbah beach district. Come with the whole family, friends or yourself and enjoy live music, grill some grillables, and connect...Adam Williams will be performing along with others....Art for the kids and live art performances...Please bring your talents! Artists & musicians come and participate...free event(donations welcome) See ya Sunday... Dolcelinos Last up, I have to draw your attention to one of the coolest (whoops there's that word again, damn!) mind melding mashups between sweet treats and art in the midcoast. That would be Dolcelino World. The creative minds who bring you "The Italian Frozen Treat Invented In Maine" are coming up with this wacky campaign to put Dolcelinos in the most unlikely of places. Pictured below: A Dolcelino about to be mugged by Gumby and Pokey. Click on the pic below to see more of their photos and hey, click "Like" and be a fan.
