Hey-O! It's time for the Killer Roundup. Spread the word! To see daily A & E updates, follow The Killer Convo on Facebook and Twitter. Oh HELL no! There is just too much good stuff happening this weekend--now that we are finally getting a good stretch of summer sun. This weekend is all about being outside, celebrating with your friends and community and livin' it. Roots and Tendrils Belfast Friday, June 18 8 pm Start your Friday off with the Midcoast's own Gabriel Zacchai Trio and Portland based singer/songwriter Putnam Smith will be performing their original music at Roots and Tendrils. Show starts at 8, cost is $5 Southern Maine Pride Parade and Festival Friday, Saturday June 18-19 There are some things worth getting outta the midcoast for. The Southern Maine Pride Parade and Festival is one of them. Queer Eye For The Straight Guy Carson Kressley, who is in Maine this summer, starring at the Ogunquit Play House, will be major attractions riding in this year’s parade. Sponsors for the event include Bank of America, The Home Depot, DownEast Pride Alliance (DEPA), Proactive Resources Design (PRD), LIFE Ogunquit & LIFE Portland, Maine AIDS Alliance, and West End Legal, LLC. With nearly 100 vendors, Festival is scheduled for 1pm - 5 :30pm. Billed as a fun, family event , festivities include live entertainment, vendors, food, kid’s space and more. As you come back up back to the midcoast, stop at Ogunquit. The Maine AIDS Alliance are hosting two nightlife events called “Life.” The first event will be held at MaineStreet in Ogunquit on Friday, June 18, featuring Boston DJ Rich Ladue. The second event is on Saturday June 19 . The long held tradition of the Pride Pier Dance will now move to Port City Music Hall Saturday night, where international DJ Scotty Thomson will join local DJs, drag performers, and dancers for the much anticipated Pride finale, 8pm – 1pm. For more info Rockland Summer Solstice Saturday, June 19 5-9 pm This is the 10th anniversary of the Rockland Summer Solstice street event which is much like an unorganized parade of wack. You have to see the street to know--it's giving the Toboggan Races a run for its money. This year 17 downtown restaurants and food specialty shops along with 14 retail shops will be participating, with food, sidewalk sales, entertainment and activities. Make sure you check out Asymmetrick Arts and The Vista's music and video installation. Bands that will play on Main Street include Juke Rocket, Rattleboxx and Undercover. Bay Winds North and Breakers Jazz will play in Winslow Holbrook Park, on the corner of Main and Park streets. Lobster Boat Races Sunday, June 19 This is the second year that Rockland, the "Lobster Capital of The World" will be hosting the lobster boat races. If you're lucky enough to know someone who has room on a boat, this is going to be a massive harbor PAH-TAY. But you can still get a great view of the races from the Rockland Breakwater. Be sure to wear good walking shoes as you will have to probably park far away and the the granite blocks of breakwater make for tricky footing. Get there about 9:30 am to get a good view. For more info Oh and hey: shout out to the local biznesses who made Downeast Magazine's cut for Reader's Choice 2010. (Midcoast rocks!)
