There is so much to do this weekend, you'd literally need to clone yourself to enjoy all the things going on! Before we get into this week's Killer Roundup, just wanted to let you in on Village Soup's free arts and entertainment magazine, thescene, which will soon hit the streets in the midcoast. This inaugural issue includes a few of The Killer Convo's features such as White Hot Spotlight, Midcoast Black Book, Rad Happenings and The Story Behind The Tattoo.

Panoptic: an exploration
Asymmetrick Arts

This show, which precedes The Camden International Film Festival, provides a window into the rapidly growing world of experimental and non-narrative documentary art forms including installation, audio pieces and experimental shorts. On Wednesday the 29th of September at 6:00 pm the festival will feature a gallery opening and live performance by international media artist Maile Colbert. Maile is a former Mid-Coast resident whose work has taken her around the world as an artist, teacher and composer.

Belfast Art Walk, Wine Tasting and Art Opening

October brings the 6th annual Belfast Poetry Festival.  Roots & Tendrils is thrilled to be involved again this year as one of the four locations housing artist and poet collaborations!

One of the only community-based, non-academic poetry festivals in the country, The Belfast Poetry Festival  features established, professionally recognized poets and artists from throughout Maine along with emerging poets to create a lively mix.  

Curated by the current Belfast Poet Laureate and Steering Committee, a highlight of the festival is exhibits of collaborative projects between these poets and visual and/or performing artists in Belfast galleries and other venues.

Collaborations featured at Roots & Tendrils this year are:
  • Poet Henry Braun with artist Robert Shetterly
  • Poet Kristen Lindquist with sculptor Beth Henderson
  • Visual artist and poet Mihku Paul

Camden International Film Festival
September 30-October 3

CIFF Weekend kicks off Thursday night at The Camden Opera House with an after-party at Brevetto.
The first film is Budrus, which everyone can attend. But...er you need to be a VIP to attend the first night's reception and after-party. After, that, the weekend explodes with the kind of films that you'll never have a chance to see elsewhere. Festival at various venues features documentaries ranging from international to Maine-made to experimental shorts. FMI: www.camdenfilmfest.org

Photographing Maine: Ten Years Later
Main, Loft, Tucker, and Brown Galleries
Opening Reception: 2:00-5:00 pm

During the past decade, the activity among Maine photographers has grown exponentially. In this digital age there are more and more people seriously committed to fine art photography using both new and traditional darkroom techniques. The goal of the invitational exhibition Photographing Maine: Ten Years Later is to pay homage to the two exhibitions in 2000 by showing a sampling of works by 150 Maine photographers created between 2000 and 2009. Each photographer will exhibit a single work in the invitational exhibition but up to four images will be included on one or two disks that will be projected throughout the exhibition. First Annual "Octoberfest" event in downtown Gardiner, Saturday 10/2 from ; produced by Gardiner Main Street. Local Maine beers and locally-grown pigs--what could be better?  A number of popular restaurants and street vendors from across the state will be teaming up to serve an array of interesting pork-driven dishes. There will also be live music throughout the day. Cost is only $11 which includes 3 5-oz drink tix. Non-drinking adults $6; 12 and under free. To cap off your whirlwind CIFF Weekend,  Cellardoor Winery and Rooftop Films will be co-presenting the closing night screening and party outdoors at the Cellardoor Winery and Vineyard. , Hey--if you weren't flush enough to have a VIP ticket--don't plotz--there is no charge for admission to the event!

At this closing event, they will screen a special work-in-progress untitled film About Light Pollution And The Disappearing Dark

Oh and if you didn't get enough of film fests this weekend check out the Manhattan Short Film Festival in Ellsworth. 10 short films under 15 minutes in length, from around the globe. Filmgoers will vote for the winner. FMI: www.manhattanshort.com.
