If you live in Maine, you can get a lobster anywhere, but one of the best things about The Maine Lobster Festival  worth seeing is the Atwood Crate Races and the bands. Sign up to volunteer just a few hours in the Marine Experience Tent, the Children’s Tent or at the Entrance Gates and get free admission into the festival for that day.

Motor Booty Affair
Thursday, August 5

This is the kickoff disco show for the Maine Lobster Festival--kind of an odd choice next to their traditional bluesy, country lineup, but if you've ever seen the Booty in action, it is a great dance party. Afro wigs and platform shoes suggested style of dress. Free with price of admission -$8. Thursday nights show will not have seating as there will be dance space provided.

Book signing The Ghost Trap
Friday, August 6, 2010
4pm

No, it's not all about lobster this weekend. But, if you happen to be in Rockland Friday afternoon, come by and see me at The Reading Corner. I'll be sitting outside with my big ole lobster trap signing copies of The Ghost Trap.

Roots and Tendrils, Belfast

8:30 pm

Art Party for The Portland Pins
These guys ask local artists to submit their own hand-made designs for 1-inch buttons, then they mix the end results all up in a gumball machine so people could buy great, unique artwork. So...apparently there will be a party for this.

And music  musicians Kelly Ravin and The Loblolly Boy will play at Roots & Tendrils in Belfast.

Kelly Ravin was born and raised In Brooks, Maine. There he honed his musical skills after his mother passed down his grandmother’s guitar on his ninth birthday. Ravin relocated to northern Vermont at 18 and has since been steadily on the road touring. The Loblolly Boy is Luke Kalloch, a Round Pond, Maine native who’s music has brought him all over the country and most recently landed him in that magnet of music towns, Austin, Texas. how starts at 8:30. Please bring $5 for the musicians. Roots & Tendrils is located at 2 Cross Street in downtown Belfast. For more information visit www.rootsandtendrils.com or call 207-338-5225.

Sweet Chariot Music Festival Dance Party sponsored by Farmers Fare!
Friday, August 6

The festivities for this year's Sweet Chariot Music Festival kick off at the new and revised location of The Snow Bowl with an Evening of Traditional Dance and Music featuring the Toughcats & the Sweet Chariot String Band with Dance Master, Frederick Park.Sounds like FUN!!! Velvet Lounge hosts Cannon
Friday, Aug. 6
7-9 pm

Scot Cannon of Belfast will perform in the Velvet Lounge series at Rock City Books & Coffee, 328 Main St., Rockland. The music will run from 7 to 9 p.m. Cannon performs his own acoustic versions of jazz and pop standards and also sings from his collection of mildly sarcastic and sometimes moving original songs. If youngsters show up, he has songs to lead them on the right path too. Some of Cannon's songs were written while on the dangerous and lonely road working as a mime. Are you freaking kidding me? I have to see this guy.

Mike Doughty, The Strand
Sunday, August 8
8 pm

American Indie and Alternative singer/song-writer Mike Doughty will perform at the Strand Theatre in Rockland on Sunday August 8 at 8pm.

Doughty first rose to the public eye as the front man and lead singer for the jazzy/electronic, not-quite-mainstream band Soul Coughing in the mid-90’s

Since leaving Soul Couching, Doughty has developed a strong and flourishing solo career, and has since returned to his acoustic roots on his latest recording, Sad Man, Happy Man.

So that's it guys. Have a stellar one. By the way, be on the lookout for my new postcard (below) in the area and sign up to be a fan on Facebook and Twitter.
